Hey everyone, me again.
We are all excited here in Melbourne at the moment, because our dam levels have reached 58.3%. I know!! Crazy but true. We were on our way to our highest water restriction levels about 18 months ago (give or take) and now, it appears, our drought has broken.
Ok, I exaggerate, there are a nerdy few of us that actually give a toss about dam levels and I'm one of them. So why the post? I was just staring at www.melbournewater.com.au and thinking about the floods we had earlier in the year and how we can have an abundance of water in one place and nothing in others. We do live in a weird little world. AND as always, I think of my travels and Croatia came to mind (again).
There is a magnificent place called Plitvce Lakes National Park where about 16 lakes fill 3 different dam at various different levels. The highest dams fill and cascade into the lower dams through a series of magnificent waterfalls. I think the park is 300 square km (roughly) and you walk around on a maze of boardwalks. At one stage you may be walking at the top of a waterfall and then around a bend you might be walking below one. It's really quite beautiful as each waterfall is so different.
